BRAHMA MISSION LABORATORY
Birbal Sahni Repository for AI-enabled Fossil Heritage, Modelling and Archives
BRAHMA MISSION initiative of the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP), Lucknow, envisioned to bring together Palaeoscience, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Advanced Imaging, Digital Archiving and Computational Modelling. Inspired by Lord Brahma, the Hindu deity symbolising creation of the universe, knowledge and wisdom, the mission reflects the spirit of exploring the origins, evolution and diversity of life and the natural world through scientific discovery and technological innovation.
The mission aims to transform India’s rich palaeontological and palaeobiological heritage into digitally accessible, AI-ready scientific resources, enabling automated microfossil recognition, intelligent analysis of large datasets, digital preservation and advanced reconstruction of past climate, biodiversity, vegetation, ecosystems and environmental change. By connecting traditional palaeoscientific expertise with emerging technologies, BRAHMA seeks to establish a future-ready research ecosystem that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, scientific innovation, capacity building and the intelligent exploration of Earth’s deep-time history.
